Kickapoo Country Fair
I LOVE Wisconsin! This was my first visit to WI and the area we were in (LaFarge) was beautiful! We stayed in a fantastic B&B called Trillium Cottage. The cottage we were in reminded me of Little House on the Prarie! Jay and I loved all the farm animals–our favorite being Kirby the donkey! The farms surrounding us were mostly Amish. Note the way the harvested wheat is in shocks to dry before threshing.
The Kickapoo Country Fair is put on by Organic Valley Family of Farms and it is a real celebration of family-scaled, sustainable farming. There were roving performers (check out the crows & corn!), authors speaking in the Word tent, vendors and workshops. Jay attending one on growing organic berries…yum!
A highlight for us was hearing Michael Perry speak and read from his books, Truck: a love story and Population 485. I got a signed copy of Population 485 and enjoyed it immensly. (FYI-It is a book geared toward ‘grown-ups.’ )
If you are ever able to get to Kickapoo…I highly recommend it!
