Truth Behind the Story

I often call the Gaia Girls Book Series
“Fiction with a Mission” because there is a real-world story behind each ficitional tale.

When I was writing Gaia Girls-Enter the Earth , I was drawing my knowledge from such books as, The Meat You Eat , by Ken Midkiff and Diet For a Dead Planet, by Christopher Cook.

I know that ya’ll loved the story of Elizabeth fighting for her family’s farm. The sweetness of the story came from my own upbringing on a small, family-farm in upstate NY. Thankfully, my dear grandfather was never pressured to “go big or get out.”

Let us not forget, that there is a reality behind such stories as the one that is relayed in GG-ETE. Jennifer P. age 14, from Jacksonville, FL , just sent me this great Rolling Stone article (some adult language) about the reality that festers behind my story.

Please read it and take the time to post a reply here so that Jennifer she has made a difference.

We all don’t have to swear off meat forever. We should, however, know where our meat is coming from and agree to the reality behind the plate.

Meat is a very dirty business, especially in “factory”-style conditions. It’s great to see that even a mag like Rolling Stone is covering these issues that affect us all – great find Stephanie!
