I’m sooo excited by how many people have signed up, watched the videos and downloaded the Mission Log. I’ve had a few questions:
Q-How do I post my Mission Log?
A-The Mission Log is for you. Use it as a reference. Click Comments to write everything in the Comment box. If you want to be certain your writing is exactly how you want it, I suggest writing in Word and then cut-n-paste it in the Comment box.

    Q-I can’t post
A-If you only signed up for the email, and didn’t sign up on the blog, you will not be able to post. Sign up on the blog. Then, I have to upgrade you so that you can post. I’m trying to get everyone, but if I miss you, email me!
A-We had an error for a while, but tech-wizard Jenn S. fixed it! :) Yeah!

You can post ANYTIME before Friday. Have fun! I can’t wait to read your findings!

I found a really disturbing bug a few days ago. It looked like a giant(and i mean giant) fly but it couldn’t fly that well. I put it in a container and poked big holes in the top to make sure it wouldn’t suffocate. I added grass in the little cage and a few other bugs(mostly Roley Polies. The weird bug makes a buzzy sound and it is very strange.

I didn’t find a bug that freaked me out or that was really disgusting, I found a normal bug. It was a firefly. But it was three in the afternoon! Usualy they come around 7:00.
    It was weird.

My bug was a Pink Striped Oakworm Moth. His body was yellow and fuzzy , he had 6 legs , 2 purpleish wings , and eye spots on the wings. The wings are supposed to be pink and yellow, but he was going to die soon , so they faded. He was fluttering around on the cement infront of my Grand-Daddy’s house in Folkston , GA. We found his name on an awesome Web Site called
    North American Moth Photograpers.

    Hi,
I’m not sure if this is where I’m supposed to blog, but I couldn’t find anywhere else to do it, so here it is!

I went out and found my bug in the evening, around 6:30 PM. I found my bug (which I think is some sort of beetle) munching on a hollyhock leaf in the front of my house. It was not alone; there were many of the same-looking bugs all eating together. My bug is about 1 centimeter long, and is actually quite pretty, if beetles can be pretty! It has a deep, dark green head and a coppery, orange-ish body with a black line running down the middle of its back. Its whole body, including its head, has an iridescent shine and shimmery glow. Even its bottom side is shiny! It has four legs, two pinchers on its sides, and no antannae or wings that I could see, although the wings could be tucked in and not easy to see. It is a somewhat common bug, but I think that even common bugs can be interesting, fasinating, cute, comical, or even beautiful if one takes the time to look at it and admire it and what it does. . . like eat the hollyhocks–for which my mom definitely doesn’t admire it!

I went out at noon to the creek near my house. I checked on trees, near trees, and under rocks. Finally, I saw a plant near a tree.
On a leaf I saw a daddy-long-legs spider with a white body and black and gray striped legs. I have never seen a spider like this!

I found my creepy bug in my Aunt’s tool shed. The corner was damp and dark. When I first saw it, it was just standing on the wall, but after a while it jumped onto the floor, but I didn’t stick around to see where it went next! The bug was a mix of brown and back and it had really big hind legs and 2 long antennae. The creepy crawler had no wings and I think I saw 6 legs, but I might be wrong, it also had a humpback, kind of like a camel! My Aunt told me the creature was called a camelback cricket and after I found that out, I did some research and found out some really cool facts! The cricket is practically blind so sometimes the bug jumps toward you instead of away from you if you try to shoo it away. Also, the camelback cricket likes damp, dark areas, so they are often found in sheds or basements. These crickets are alsoo nicknamed cave crickets, and my Aunt calls the sprickets because they look like a cross between a spider and a cricket.
So there you go, thats my creepy bug, I had a lot of fun researching this bug, and I look forward to the next Gaia Mission!

I found the weirdest bug a few days ago. It was under a really flat rock and it looked kind of like a centipede. When I lifted up the rock all of the bugs that were under there went crawling away. I noticed my bug because it looked like it was slithering over and under the dirt. It was clack and had tons of black scales all over it’s body. It was sooo creepy!

P.S. I typed black wrong. It says clack but I mean black.

I misspelled a couple words, back is supposed to be black, alsoo should only have 1 o and the is supposed to be them

  11. adrie says:

P.S.S. I wrote too many blacks. It’s supposed to only have one black, and it’s the one that says clack.
