Bright Moon
I’m missing it. We are having a pretty big snowstorm here in upstate New York. But, if your sky is clear…go out and look up!
Tonight is the biggest and brightest full moon that you will see this year! The Moon will appear 14% bigger and 30% brighter! Our dear Moon has an elliptical orbit and tonight is the ”perigee,” the closest that orbit will bring it to Earth. I hope Gaia gives the Moon a friendly, “Hello!” It is 31,000 miles closer than usual!
Tell us if you saw it! Better yet, take a picture!

Aw, crud! i missed it!, I was on a really late plane, so I got home at about 11:30. But the good news is, the reason I was on a plane was that I got to go to Mexico for a week! It was really fun, i got to swim with a Dolphin!!! I got to do a dorsal ride where, Frieda (the dolphin) came up to you and offered her dorsal fin, you grabbed it, and she sped off, taking you for a ride! I felt like Miho!!!!!!!!

Omigosh I saw it! It was AMAZING! INCREDIBLE! Here in Maryland, the sky cleared right at the perfect moment. It was HUGE! Like a small puffy cloud in the sky. Well a big small puffy cloud… but it was amazing! And yellow! When it first rose it was orange, turning yellow by 7. My room has the perfect eastward view of it. The light shown into my room and lit it up! It was so amazing. But I didn’t take a picture….hehe..sorry! And I hope I don’t sound braggy…it was just…cool…

I didn’t see it, but I did see the one about a month ago, the news said the one I saw was as close as the moon has been to earth in a lot of years, when I saw it, I was in the car, and I thought it was a firework!! You’re pretty lucky Scout!!

I didn’t see it on the tenth but I did see it on the eleventh… It was cloudy but I still had a “moon shadow”!

Ooooh my gosh I saw it just last night! It was still out the night of Jan. 13th and it looked orange. Way back in history, people used to name moons to keep track of the season. I read that this moon was called the full wolf moon but i dont remember why.
EarthTeaherb says:
My mom says a certain tribe of Indians named the harvest moon (back in the fall) the beaver moon because the beavers have orange front teeth and the moon was orange, and it signaled to them to set there beaver traps.

ooooooh thats cool
EarthTeaherb says:
that was my exact reaction!

Oh, yeah! in my social studies class, we are studying ancient Greece, and we get to choose our, “Greek name” that our teacher will call us for about three months. I chose Gaia!!!!!!! as in the Greek earth Goddess, it feels so cool!
Scout says:
thats so cool I wish they did that at our school! We are in the American Revolution….:(. I actually was in a soccer game and there was a girl named Gaia on the other team so after I went and said I like your name to her.
EarthTeaherb says:
we finally get to learn about other cultures in social studies!! Even though I love the Lewis and Clark story, it gets kinda boring after a while, I think they should tell it from the Indian’s point of view for once. that is so cool how you met a girl named Gaia, I wonder if she likes otters?
Scout says:
xD that would have been awesome. She had this flaming red curly hair and freckled face.

“Beaver Moon!” I love it! I’ve met three or four “Gaia’s” while signing books. It’s always fun to sign a book, “To Gaia!”
