What I heard
When I let my dogs out this morning, it was still dark. The eastern sky held a hint of sunrise, but there wasn’t much light to see by. That was okay, because what I heard made me so happy. My killdeer are back! Their high, clear call sliced through the dark. If you would like to hear the call, Cornell’s Lab of Ornithology has a nice recording.
Killdeer like to nest on open, rocky ground. There is an empty lot across from my house and they nest there every year. The eggs look just like rocks! The parents do a fabulous “hurt bird” show if you get close to the eggs or the babies. And I have to say, baby killdeer are actually cute…unlike most baby birds!
This is one of my favorite sounds because I hear it day and night, all summer long. What are you hearing that is different?

That is so cool! I have never seen a bird nest openly except for the turkeys that come along, there are 4 adults and ten babies.

Hi, I’m new to the site so maybe I’m just missing something, but I can’t find where and when the next book in the series is coming out? There will be four correct? Just wanna know cause I’m excited. Thanks.
juliagulia193 says:
um, actually I think there is going to be 7. I’m not exactly sure when the next book is coming out, but I know that Lee Welles the author, is working on it currently.
Lee Welles-author says:
The next book should be out by the end of the year. I recently complete another middle-reader book that may be out much sooner. It’s pretty cool and if you like Gaia Girls, you will like this too! Can’t talk about it too much until the deals are all done.

I have a question, when did the second book come out? because my sister got Enter the Earth for Christmas, and I just recently read and finished the book. I thought the book was newer than when it was released.
