Summertime Snackin’

It must be getting close to lunchtime because I’m thinking about food.

Yummy Snap Peas! How many of you like to eat something you grow at home, or pick up at a farmer’s market? Our backyard garden is booming! I’m still eating sugar snap peas everyday and looooovin’ it! When I was little, I would stand by the vines and snack on them. I bring them in the house now…most of the time!

We planted a few blueberry bushes a few years ago and they gave us a present this year…yummmmm. Can wait for melon!!!

Tell me about your garden, your local farmer, and your favorite summertime snacks.

My favorite summertime snack that we make at our house are dill pickles! We use as much as we can from our garden to make these and they usually last a long while. My family’s garden has lots of herbs, fruits, and veggies.

We have an awesome garden! There are millions of beans from the bean plants. I cannot believe that they grew over 6 feet tall and i need a stool to pick them! We also have a lot of beautiful cucumbers and melons! Then our yard genorously produced like 10 raisberry bushes and we are bringing in like 2 cups a day! It is amazing!! :)

I’m trying to build my own little self sustainable house in my own backyard, so I’ve started a small garden. It’s only got two things in it though: corn and lavender. But I’ve checked up on my corn plants and the ones that grew will probably give me about seven or eight ears of corn! My dad has a much more successful garden though, with the biggest collard greens I’ve ever seen!

Oh, and I forgot to mention, I just brought the sheep that I had bought and kept at the sheep breeder’s house home to my place! They are two ewe lambs named Hazel and Daylily.

It will be released in the fall or something like that. I’ve always wanted sheep! But, the closest I’ll ever get to that is chickens which we’ll be getting next spring. To bad we can’t get sheep, i think my dog(a border collie) would love sheep, because he can only herd cats, because we try to keep him from herding little kids. :)

Do collered greens grow well in gardens in new york? Or do they only thrive in the south? Because I love collared greens with pork!
