Morning Run-Texas Style
I am in Texas this week. Wow! It is very different from Corning, NY! First of all, it is amazingly flat! I’m not used to it and feel out of sorts without my beautiful hills surrounding me.
The grackles (a common bird in both in NY and TX) have giant tails! I ducked into a Barnes & Noble and grabbed a TX bird guide. It’s called a “boat tail grackle.” What a great name. They seem comical to me. I wonder if the local Texans like them?
I also saw this huge hawk! I was driving, and almost got rear-ended because I hit the brakes to gape at this magnificent bird rising and falling in an open field. He landed on a sign and gave me the eye! Again, I swung into the Barnes & Noble to check the TX bird book…it might have been a Harrier! I say might, because it’s hard to get a good look when you’re driving and people are honking their horns at you! Why they didn’t want to stop and stare, I’ll never know! Silly Texans.
I was in this town two year ago and remember running on dirt trails in a nice park. Sadly, they’ve turned all the dirt trails into cement walkways. My knees are not happy with me. And, the park has lost much of it’s natural feel. Too bad.
Sorry I have no cool pictures. I’m working on my iBook and find doing stuff like that much harder. If you find a nice photo of either of those birds…post a link!
