Thanksgiving Adventure

redheadduck-smMy “wolf-ish” dog Leeloo and I went for a Thanksgiving Day walk. On this day, I went off the regular route and into a strip of woods between the river and the backwater. Since some four-wheelers and mountain bikers have been through there, we found a nice braid of paths. Not that Leeloo used the paths…she was off and running, nose to the ground.

It was oddly quiet. I’m thinking most of my favorite songbirds have boogied south for the winter. (Smart birds!) Although, I did stand a listen to a kingfisher call for a full two minutes. He was chirping repeatedly, and fast. It seemed as if he were trying to get one of his kingfisher friends to join him. Or perhpas he was just irritated that the wolf-dog and I had invaded his space. Either way, it was great to listen to.

On our way back, we say a Redhead Duck, which was pretty neat since I walk along the river quite a bit and don’t usually see them. He hustled away from the bank when he saw the dog, kept nervously looking at me, and then *ploop!* turned his fanny up and went under! It was impressive how far he swam underwater! I wonder how far he will go during his migration?

I’m thankful that I live where I can go out my door and wander about, enjoying Gaia’s gifts. What are you thankful for?
