Wow! That’s a fantastic idea, I never would have thought of using hair. At least we know we can help with oil spils now.

Wow that is really really neat! That makes a lot of sense though. Hair does collect a lot of oil, and very quickly. Last year in science class we did this project where we made our own oil spills and had to try to figure out how to clean it up. We had a little container of water that our teacher poured oil in and we had to put in a feather to represent a bird, and a little piece of fake fur to be an otter. Then we had to pick our materials to try to clean it up. I grabbed paper towels and dish soap. I grabbed the dish soap because if it gets rid of grease and oil on plates and bowls than it should do something to the water. It did not completely get rid of the oil in the water, but it did get all the oil off of the fur and feather and after I dried them off, they were fluffy and new again! That experiment was reall an eye opener for how didficult it is to effectivly clean up oil spills. I should really tell my science teacher how hair can help too. :)

I was going to make a flyer about this to hand out at all my local hair salons. I noticed that people were mailing them in to somewhere. I wanted to know if I could get that address. Also, Iwas thinking and couldn’t you also collect hair from hairbrushes. My hairbrushes collect lots of hair, I have to pull it out and throw it away.
