Gaia in Iraq

“In the midst of a desert, was an oasis of aquatic life that was larger than the Everglades.”
Mother Nature Network does a nice job of telling the story of Azzam Alwash, an engineer committee to restoring an area where the lushness of nature nurtured the oldest civilizations of man. Wow! This is an interesting story, and helps you see Iraq as a place other than one of conflict. Gaia lives there too.
Check out his organization, Nature Iraq, the ONLY environmental organization in Iraq. Be sure to look at the amazing Speigle Online pictures before/after pictures of the marshes, and of the Madan, the people who live onthe wetlands!
